Polibit: A Fix for Brexit

Digesting much of the current debate (at considerable risk of oversimplification) leads me to assume:

O Britain wants:

O Out of the European rules system

O No hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland

     O EU reform

O The EU wants:

O No easy exit, to discourage others from leaving

Hence, my fix for Brexit:

O Britain out of the European rules system, including Northern Ireland

O A period of five years of no hard border between the Irelands

O A hard border between the Irelands and the rest of Britain

O A period of five years for the EU to adopt a reform package

This gives five years for Britain and the EU to resolve the border problem, and for the EU to work on serious reform. In the meantime, the mixed status of Northern Ireland has to be accepted by both sides. This gives Britain its “sovereignty” while preserving the EU’s tough line on exiting the Union. Something for everyone.
